Opening of the Free Urban Summer Spot 'Seongnaecheon Water Playground'

The ‘Seongnaecheon Water Playground’ has become more fun and comfortable.

Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) and Songpa-gu Facilities Management Corporation (Chairman Hwang Dae-seong) announced the opening of the urban summer retreat ‘Seongnaecheon Water Playground’ on the 23rd to help cool down the summer heat.

The ‘Seongnaecheon Water Playground’ was created in 2004 with a total length of 160m and a width of 3 to 5m, using 2,000 tons of clean subway spring water, with a water depth of 30 to 80cm. Since its opening, it has become a representative summer water playground attracting 200,000 visitors annually.

Especially this year, to provide fun comparable to private water parks, the district plans to newly install and operate a ▲ Trick Art Zone ▲ Water Slide.

The Trick Art Zone features vivid three-dimensional paintings of dolphins, sea turtles, and more using shading and perspective, allowing visitors to take memorable photos, while the Water Slide offers even more exciting water play.

In addition, various convenience facilities such as shade tents, changing rooms, showers, restrooms, drinking fountains, and wall fountains are available. This year, reflecting residents’ opinions, 13 Mongol tents were installed in areas without shade to provide ample shade, and portable toilets were also installed to enhance user convenience.

Moreover, since many people gather at the water playground, the district will pay special attention to facility maintenance and safety management.

First, for clean water quality management, water quality tests are conducted once a week by requesting the public health center, and only subway spring water and groundwater that pass the tests are used. The water in the playground is drained and replaced daily, and trash is collected frequently to ensure children can play in hygienic water conditions.

The water depth is maintained at 30 to 80cm so that children can safely enjoy the water playground, with careful attention to the safety of infants and toddlers.

To prevent safety accidents, safety personnel are deployed at all times. Five safety personnel are assigned on weekdays, and ten on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. An organic cooperation system with the Songpa Fire Station 119 Rescue Team has been established to enable quick emergency response in case of emergencies.

Opening of the Free Urban Summer Spot 'Seongnaecheon Water Playground' Seogangseok, Mayor of Songpa District, is giving a greeting at the opening ceremony of Seongnaecheon Water Playground.

The Seongnaecheon Water Playground will operate for 70 days until August 31, open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., free of charge for all ages. However, it will be closed during typhoons or rainy weather to prevent safety accidents.

Additionally, next to the water playground flows the natural ecological stream ‘Seongnaecheon,’ where visitors can enjoy observing various freshwater fish and aquatic plants rarely seen in the city.

Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, “The Seongnaecheon Water Playground has become a representative summer water playground where the whole family can enjoy together, with accessibility and the added waterside sentiment of Seongnaecheon. We will do our best to manage water quality and prevent safety accidents so that more residents can cool off in a clean and safe environment.”
