Hail on the 15th Causes Damage to Approximately 100ha of Crops
Yeongyang-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, visited farms damaged by hail on June 17 to console the distressed farmers and to inspect the specific damage situation.
Yeongyang County has launched on-site inspections of hail-damaged farms and emergency recovery support.
On that day, the local member of the National Assembly (Assemblyman Park Hyung-su), along with members of the Yeongyang-gun Council (Chairman Kim Seok-hyun), inspected the disaster damage sites and discussed rapid support measures for recovery.
There was significant damage to crops such as chili peppers, apples, and tobacco, and it is expected that the scale of damage will increase once the detailed hail damage survey is completed.
Accordingly, Yeongyang-gun has urgently allocated a reserve fund of 100 million won to support affected farms with the purchase of agricultural materials (such as growth promoters and nutrients) to prevent secondary damage to crops, including growth and quality deterioration and poor fruiting.
In addition, to restore crop damage, emergency pest and disease control and guidance on post-management of crops will be provided, and in cooperation with NH Nonghyup Bank Yeongyang Branch, nutrients will be supplied free of charge to hail-damaged farms for urgent application to affected crops.
Governor Oh Do-chang said, “It is very unfortunate that the difficulties of farmers have increased due to sudden hail damage before the damage caused by abnormal low temperatures last spring has even subsided,” and added, “We will do our best to support hail-damaged farms to ease their worries.”
