Jung-gu, Seoul Holds Ceremony to Commemorate Elder Abuse Prevention Day
Jung-gu, Seoul (Mayor Kim Gil-seong) held a 'Elder Abuse Prevention Day Ceremony' on the 14th at the Chungmu Art Center Convention Hall, attended by over 130 residents in celebration of Elder Abuse Prevention Day.
Elder Abuse Prevention Day (June 15 every year) is a legally designated commemorative day established in 2017 under the Elderly Welfare Act to protect the human rights of the elderly and prevent elder abuse.
The event proceeded with the appointment ceremony of elder human rights guardians, declaration of commitment to elder abuse prevention, commemorative speeches, and performances, followed by elder abuse prevention education and a raffle for human rights protection pledge cards.
The elder abuse prevention performance involved pulling four panels that revealed phrases such as ▲Jung-gu leading in human rights protection, Jung-gu together ▲A small signal sent by elders, precious attention sent by fingertips ▲Reporting elder abuse is not meddling but helping ▲Spreading love brings hope, sharing the meaning of Elder Abuse Prevention Day.
Kim Gil-seong, Mayor of Jung-gu, stated, “Jung-gu will carefully watch over and take an interest together with residents to ensure that no elder suffers abuse alone in places where no one knows.”
