Pohang Janggi's First Shipment of 'Golden Sanddalgi'!

Unique Color Sensation Gains Word of Mouth, Expected to Become Popular

Pohang City’s Janggi Wild Raspberry Farming Association harvested yellow wild raspberries for the first time on the 5th and plans to ship about 70 kg this year.

Pohang Janggi's First Shipment of 'Golden Sanddalgi'! Janggi Golden Raspberry, expected to gain popularity through word of mouth for its unique color tone.

Wild raspberries usually bring to mind a plump, bright red appearance, but the wild raspberries harvested this time in Janggi-myeon have a golden yellow color.

The golden wild raspberry (yellow wild raspberry) was discovered and collected as a wild specimen in the Janggi-myeon area in 2020, and about 100 tissue-cultured seedlings were obtained in 2021 after requesting the Gyeongbuk Provincial Agricultural Research and Extension Services.

The distributed seedlings were given to farmers in Janggi-myeon and, through a two-year acclimatization process, were successfully harvested this year.

All the wild raspberries produced this time will be distributed to bakeries, cafes, and others through online distributors, and the selling price is more than twice that of red wild raspberries. Additionally, as the number of consumers wishing to purchase increases, the planting area is expected to expand from next year to increase the harvest volume.

A city official said, “Over the past few years, most wild raspberry farms have faced many difficulties due to COVID-19 and typhoons, but we hope that the newly supplied golden wild raspberries will not only contribute to increasing farmers’ income but also serve as an opportunity for wild raspberries, one of Pohang City’s representative specialties, to advance to the next level.”
