Military aircraft from China and Russia entered and then exited the Korea Air Defense Identification Zone (KADIZ).
The Joint Chiefs of Staff announced on the 6th, "From 11:52 a.m. to 1:49 p.m., four Chinese and four Russian military aircraft sequentially entered and then exited the South Sea and East Sea KADIZ, with no airspace violations."

The Joint Chiefs stated, "Our military identified the Chinese and Russian military aircraft before they entered the KADIZ and deployed air force fighter jets to implement tactical measures in preparation for any contingencies."
The Air Defense Identification Zone is an arbitrary boundary established to identify and respond early to military aircraft approaching a country's airspace. It is a different concept from airspace, which consists of the air above a nation's territory and territorial waters.
However, it is an international practice for military aircraft entering another country's Air Defense Identification Zone to submit a flight plan in advance and notify their position upon entry.
Earlier, the Chinese Ministry of National Defense announced via its official WeChat channel (China's version of KakaoTalk) that China and Russia conducted the 6th joint air strategic patrol on the 6th in the airspace related to the East Sea and East China Sea based on the annual cooperation plan between the two militaries.
Chinese and Russian military aircraft also entered and exited the KADIZ in May and November of last year.
