Geochang-gun Achieves Two Crowns in National Evaluation Project by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety

Selected as an Excellent Food Safety Management Institution and
Food Culture Improvement Project Simultaneously

Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam Province announced on the 24th that it has achieved a double crown in the nationwide evaluation project by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, being simultaneously selected as an excellent institution for food safety management and a meritorious institution for food culture improvement projects.

The selection as an excellent institution for food safety management is an award given to only eight outstanding institutions nationwide, evaluated among cities with a population under 200,000 based on their performance in food safety management infrastructure, basic hygiene management, major government food policies, and exemplary cases of food safety management.

The award for meritorious institutions in food culture improvement projects is also given to only four institutions nationwide, evaluated based on their overall performance in establishing the culture of shared serving, spreading and promoting restaurant hygiene grading systems, creating a safe dining environment, and exemplary cases of food culture improvement.

Geochang-gun has actively carried out guidance, inspection, support, and promotional activities to foster excellent food hygiene monitoring personnel for flawless food safety management and food culture improvement, including ensuring food safety at hygiene establishments and early establishment of the shared serving food culture.

In particular, to create a safe dining environment and encourage voluntary participation in food culture improvement, Geochang-gun enacted the Ordinance on Support for Hygiene Establishments in 2017, supporting facility improvements for hygiene establishments, leading efforts in food safety and food culture improvement.

Gu In-mo, the county governor, said, “We will continue to promote projects for facility improvements of hygiene establishments and the establishment of food safety infrastructure, doing our best to create a safe dining environment and improve food culture for the residents.”
