The government has recognized 106 additional cases of compensation for adverse reactions occurring after COVID-19 vaccination.

According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency on the 23rd, the COVID-19 Vaccination Injury Compensation Expert Committee (Compensation Committee) held its 7th meeting on the 11th and reviewed 529 new cases of compensation claims for adverse reactions following vaccination. It recognized causality in 106 cases (20.0%) and decided to provide compensation.


The Compensation Committee dismissed cases involving common adverse reactions that typically appear within 3 days after vaccination, complications unrelated to the vaccine or underlying diseases, cases caused by infections such as diabetes or arrhythmia rather than the vaccine, and cases caused by infectious factors such as cystitis or urinary tract infections unrelated to the vaccine, stating that these are not recognized as adverse reactions to the COVID-19 vaccine.


The cumulative number of compensation claims is 94,841, with 85,759 cases (90.4%) having completed review. Among the reviewed cases, compensation was decided for a total of 23,569 cases (27.5%), including 17 deaths.


Among claims for small medical expenses under 300,000 KRW based on out-of-pocket costs, 15,034 cases underwent local government review for expedited processing, resulting in compensation decisions for 5,604 cases.


The total number of medical expense support recipients for suspected related diseases is 1,561, and 9 people are eligible for death condolence payments. For 48 individuals eligible for condolence payments due to undetermined cause of death after autopsy, individual guidance and application acceptance are underway through the respective local governments, with payments completed for 43 people.
