May 20-21, Ulju-gun Seonbawi Park Area Species Survey
First 250 Elementary Students and Guardians Registered by May 12
Ulsan City and the Ulsan Biodiversity Center will conduct the '2023 Ulsan Biodiversity Exploration' over two days on May 20 and 21 at Seonbawi Park in Beomseo-eup, Ulju-gun.
The biodiversity exploration (hereafter, exploration) is an ecological science participation activity that involves discovering and recording what kinds of organisms exist around us.
The exploration is divided into biological exploration (Walk program) and discussion (Talk program).
The biological exploration is an activity conducted with experts to investigate the area, and this year it will be divided into 10 groups (25 people per group) focusing on plants, mammals, birds, and others.
The species discovered during the investigation are uploaded to the 'Naturing' app or recorded in handwritten lists.
After the biological exploration, experts and participants will have a time to discuss the species together.
The discussion is conducted in a question-and-answer format about what species were found during the exploration and their characteristics.
The center is recruiting 250 participants on a first-come, first-served basis, targeting elementary school students and their guardians within Ulsan.
Students and guardians who wish to participate can apply on the Ulsan Biodiversity Center website from April 24 to May 12.
For inquiries, contact the Ulsan City Environmental Policy Division or the Ulsan Biodiversity Center by phone.
An official from Ulsan City said, "With the lifting of COVID-19 social distancing measures, we have greatly expanded the number of recruits this year and look forward to active participation from many people."
Ulsan City, the only local government nationwide operating a center, has been holding explorations annually since 2015 to conserve species.
