[2023 Property Disclosure] Average Assets of Chungcheong Region City and Provincial Leaders 3.27 Billion KRW

The heads of the four metropolitan cities and provinces in the Chungcheong region reported an average property value of 3,276.72 million KRW.

The official with the highest reported assets is Kim Young-hwan, Governor of Chungbuk Province. However, in Governor Kim's case, the property value temporarily increased due to incomplete registration following the sale of a building.

On the 30th, the Government Ethics Committee disclosed the asset declarations of political appointees under the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, senior public officials of grade A, heads of metropolitan and basic local governments, metropolitan council members, and city/provincial superintendents of education through the official gazette.

In the disclosed asset details, Governor Kim reported 6,645.76 million KRW, an increase of 5,696.08 million KRW compared to the previous year (949.68 million KRW).

However, most of the increased assets were temporarily inflated due to the incomplete registration after selling a building owned by him. The building sold by Governor Kim was valued at 5,725 million KRW, and most of the proceeds were used to repay his previously declared debt of 8 billion KRW.

Following Governor Kim, the official with the second-highest assets is Lee Jang-woo, Mayor of Daejeon. The disclosed assets of Mayor Lee totaled 3,081.71 million KRW, an increase of 341.11 million KRW compared to the previous year.

Mayor Lee, along with his spouse and children, declared assets including buildings worth 2,960.85 million KRW, land worth 107.44 million KRW, deposits of 504.65 million KRW, and securities worth 26.97 million KRW.

Additionally, Mayor Choi Min-ho of Sejong reported assets totaling 2,177.48 million KRW, a decrease of 1,456.29 million KRW compared to the previous year. Most of Mayor Choi's assets consisted of buildings valued at 1,686 million KRW and deposits of 458.2 million KRW.

Mayor Choi's assets decreased by more than 1.2 billion KRW due to a correction in the value of an apartment jointly owned with his wife located in Mapo-gu, Seoul.

Among the four heads of the Chungcheong region, the official reporting the smallest amount of assets is Kim Tae-heum, Governor of Chungnam Province. Governor Kim declared total assets of 1,215.9 million KRW, a decrease of 131.95 million KRW compared to the previous year. His disclosed assets include buildings worth 887.6 million KRW, land worth 72.55 million KRW, and deposits of 234.88 million KRW.

Meanwhile, the disclosed asset details were prepared based on changes in assets reported between January 1 and February 28 of this year, reflecting the status as of December 31, 2022.
