Disaster and Safety Accident Prevention... Focused Inspection of Vulnerable Facilities
Verification of On-Site Conditions for Multi-Use Facilities and Landslide Risks
Joint Effort by Ministry of the Interior and Safety, Gyeongbuk Province, K
Pohang City has launched intensive safety inspections of vulnerable facilities to prevent disasters and safety accidents during the thawing season.
This inspection was conducted to prevent safety accidents through focused checks, as concerns have arisen that facilities may collapse or rockfalls and landslides may occur due to the ground weakening as the frozen surface from winter melts.
The city has identified vulnerable facilities with high risks of safety accidents during the thawing season and spring safety accident sites. It is focusing inspections on ground cracks, rockfalls, and collapse risks in landslide-prone areas, cut slopes, and steep slopes, as well as ground subsidence and facility cracks in multi-use facilities and tourist sites such as skywalks and suspension bridges.
On the 23rd, the city conducted a joint inspection with an inspection team composed of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, Gyeongbuk Province, the Korea Forest Service, and private expert members, focusing on some landslide-prone areas where human casualties are a concern. Safety inspections are being conducted regularly, centered on the departments responsible for each facility.
Minor issues found during the inspection will be immediately repaired and reinforced, and parts judged to be dangerous will receive emergency measures followed by the preparation of separate action plans.
Through this, Pohang City plans to respond closely to facilities and sites that could threaten citizen safety to ensure that not a single safety accident occurs.
The city will actively propose necessary measures to promptly advance ongoing projects and prevent damage to citizens’ precious lives and property, and will also make every effort to secure national and provincial funding.
Kim Nam-jin, Director of the Urban Safety and Marine Bureau, said, “Since the weakened ground during the thawing season poses a high risk of safety accidents, we will focus on inspecting vulnerable facilities to protect citizens’ lives and property. We also ask for the public’s great interest and cooperation in safety inspections.”
