Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong District, led a large-scale spring cleaning event with residents starting at 2 p.m. on the 27th.


Residents, district office staff, public institutions, and private organizations joined forces to remove the accumulated grime from winter by thoroughly cleaning the entire area.

The spring cleaning event took place at the plazas in front of Eungam Station and Gupabal Station, with over 100 residents participating, focusing on key spring spots such as Bulgwangcheon Stream and the hiking trails of Jingwan Neighborhood Park.


In preparation for the ‘Spring of Eunpyeong’ festival starting April 2 at Bulgwangcheon, the team cleaned up discarded household waste along nearby roads and walking paths. To prevent flood damage, leaves, cigarette butts, and other debris that had entered storm drains near Bulgwangcheon were also cleared.


Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong District, said, “Through this joint public-private spring cleaning, all residents, staff, related organizations, and private groups united to remove the old grime and prepare for spring. We will continue to promote a culture of voluntary cleaning among residents by operating seasonal cleaning days throughout the year.”

Mapo District (Mayor Park Kang-su) opened ‘Masil Cinema,’ a free movie screening service for seniors, on the afternoon of the 27th at the Mapo District Office auditorium.


The opening ceremony was attended by Mayor Park Kang-su and about 150 local seniors, who enjoyed a trot medley performance and watched the first screening, ‘Clowns: The Rumor Manipulation Squad.’


Before the movie started, Mayor Park Kang-su said, “I hope you all laugh a lot at ‘Masil Cinema,’ which has arrived with the warm spring. We will continue to organize various cultural events so that seniors can enjoy healthy and happy lives.”


This year, Masil Cinema is scheduled for a total of seven sessions until November, excluding July and August (the hottest months). Screenings are held at 2 p.m. on the fourth Monday of each month at the Mapo District Office auditorium and are open to the public without prior registration.

Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon District, attended the opening ceremony of Dangogae Park located at 113-2 Sanggye-dong at 3 p.m. on the 27th.


Dangogae Park was established in 2002 and has been undergoing a ‘Living Park Regeneration Project’ since June last year, including the construction of a management office and restrooms, creation of a circular walking trail, expansion of parking lots, installation of exercise equipment, and replacement of aging facilities and pavement.


The renovated Dangogae Park now features an outdoor stage and deck rest area on the open lawn for outdoor events. The basketball court pavement was replaced, and the badminton court’s artificial turf was renewed. Additionally, a circular walking trail was created, and about 20 exercise facilities were installed in the exercise yard.


The ceremony was attended by Mayor Oh Seung-rok, members of the National Assembly, city and district council members, and other guests. The program included the national anthem, introduction of guests, progress report, presentation of appreciation plaques, speeches, ribbon cutting, and a park tour.


Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, “Dangogae Park, a resting place for local residents, has returned to the community with a new look. We will continue to make efforts so that residents can fully heal in their nearby living park without having to travel far.”

Yongsan District held the ‘2023 School Violence Countermeasure Regional Council’ meeting at 2 p.m. on the 27th in the district office’s small conference room.


The district has formed and operates the ‘Yongsan District School Violence Countermeasure Regional Council,’ which includes the district office, education office, schools, police, and social organizations to prevent school violence and protect youth. The council consists of 11 members: 3 ex officio and 8 appointed members.


The detailed members include three senior officials from Yongsan District Office?the Deputy Mayor, Director of Administrative Support, and Director of Life Support?two Yongsan District Council members, principals of Shingwang Middle School and Itaewon Elementary School, representatives from the Central Education Support Office, Yongsan Police Station, Korea Youth Development Association Yongsan Branch, and the Central Wee Center.


The meeting began with the presentation of appointment certificates to four new members, followed by reports on school violence prevention measures by institution and discussions on mutual cooperation and support plans among the council.


Kim Seon-su, Acting Mayor of Yongsan District, said, “The scope of school violence has expanded beyond physical and material harm to psychological harm. We will work more closely and organically with related institutions in the district to prevent any youth from becoming victims of school violence.”



Dongdaemun District Signs Business Agreement with Sejong the Great Memorial Association

Cooperation Projects to Promote Sejong the Great’s Achievements and Revitalize Dongdaemun’s Culture and Arts

On the 23rd, Dongdaemun District announced that it signed a business agreement with the ‘Sejong the Great Memorial Association’ to promote the virtues and achievements of Sejong the Great and to revitalize culture and arts in Dongdaemun District.


The ‘Sejong the Great Memorial Association’ operates the ‘Sejong the Great Memorial Hall’ (56 Hoegi-ro) located in Dongdaemun District. Established in May 1957 with approval from the Minister of Education, the association aims to widely publicize Sejong the Great’s virtues and achievements and to pass on his spirit of national independence, love for the people, scientific creativity, and practical philosophy to the public.


Major achievements include the construction of the Sejong the Great Memorial Hall in November 1970, publication of ‘The Annals of King Sejong’ and ‘Biography of Sejong the Great,’ and hosting commemorative events for Sejong Day and Hangeul Day.


The Sejong the Great Memorial Hall houses eight nationally designated cultural assets including the ‘Seoul Cheonggyecheon Supyo’ and six Seoul-designated cultural assets including relics from Gureung Royal Tomb. The first-floor exhibition hall displays a royal portrait of Sejong the Great along with 15 Korean paintings depicting his great achievements.


The agreement ceremony was held at the Sejong the Great Memorial Hall with Dongdaemun District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung and Sejong the Great Memorial Association CEO Choi Hong-sik in attendance.


The main contents of the agreement include ▲exchange of materials and information related to the compilation and publication of literature and national studies on Sejong the Great ▲promotion of Sejong’s achievements, culture, and the association’s various projects ▲exchange and cooperation of related information and resources [infrastructure] between institutions to foster reading among residents ▲promotion of arts in Dongdaemun District and cooperation projects to satisfy residents’ cultural enjoyment needs.


Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun District, said, “Based on this business agreement with the Sejong the Great Memorial Association, we will elevate Dongdaemun’s cultural and artistic capabilities and transform it into a more refined and prestigious city.”
