Yeosu Port, First International Cruise Arrival Since COVID-19

The first international cruise ship since COVID-19 will dock at Yeosu Port in Jeollanam-do next month.

Yeosu City (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) announced that with the resumption of cruise ship arrivals, which had been completely banned due to COVID-19, since October last year, three international cruise ships will dock at Yeosu Port this year.

This marks the first time in over three years and three months.

Accordingly, a total of 1,763 people, including 909 passengers and 854 crew members, are expected to visit major tourist destinations such as Yeosu and Suncheon.

First, the ‘Silver Whisper’ arriving in April is a 28,258-ton cruise ship operated by Silversea Cruises, measuring 186 meters in length, carrying about 677 people including 382 passengers and 295 crew members, and will visit Yeosu Port.

Following that, in May, the ‘Le Soleal’ operated by Ponant will arrive, and in October, the ‘Silver Whisper’ will dock again.

The city is focusing on preparations for the arrival, including organizing a welcoming event for the first docking next month, operating currency exchange booths, maintaining tourist information centers, and coordinating with related organizations to support customized tourist courses for visitors.

Shin Young-ja, Director of Tourism, said, “This cruise ship arrival will be a great opportunity to promote Yeosu to the world,” adding, “We will continue to engage with cruise companies and related personnel through domestic and international cruise familiarization tours, and strengthen efforts to attract international cruises by linking with domestic and international MICE promotional activities.”
