Sky72 was established in 2005 by leasing land owned by Incheon International Airport Corporation, the planned site for the airport's 5th runway, to create a golf course and clubhouse. At that time, Incheon International Airport Corporation and Sky72 set the contract termination date as December 31, 2020, when the 5th runway would be constructed, but the construction was delayed, leading to over two years of legal disputes.

Despite the expiration of the land use period, Incheon International Airport Corporation filed a lawsuit against Sky72 for continued operation and won the final verdict on December 1 of last year. After the court enforced compulsory execution on 54 of the total 72 holes on January 17, Sky72 continued operations on the remaining 18 holes (Haneul Course) but ceased operations on the 26th of last month.
