The arrest warrant for Mr. A, a member of the Korean University Students Progressive Union (Daejinyeon), who is accused of trespassing on a U.S. military base and staging a surprise protest, was dismissed.
On the 13th, Judge Jeong In-jae, in charge of warrants at the Seoul Western District Court, dismissed the arrest warrant after a substantive hearing, stating that "there is no risk of flight or possibility of evidence destruction."
Mr. A is accused of holding a protest against the South Korea-U.S. joint military exercises in front of the former South Korea-U.S. Combined Forces Command building at the Yongsan U.S. military base on the afternoon of the 10th (charges of trespassing and violation of the Assembly and Demonstration Act). At that time, the police arrested 18 members of Daejinyeon who participated in the protest, and the remaining 17 were released the previous day. Daejinyeon did not file a prior report for the assembly and demonstration.
