Boarding in front of a club near Sinsa Station

A taxi driver’s story about wanting to shame a woman who fled after promising to pay the fare by saying "trust my face" has been shared.

On the 7th, Mr. A, who identified himself as a taxi driver, posted on an online community, saying, "The situation is already difficult enough, but this is absurd," and shared the damage caused by a 'fare evasion.'

According to the post, Mr. A picked up a drunk woman, Ms. B, in front of a club near Sinsa Station at 2 a.m. and drove her to Yeoksam-dong. The taxi fare was 9,000 won. At Ms. B’s request, Mr. A gave her his bank account number.

However, Ms. B said she couldn’t transfer the money and that she would go home to get cash, then went outside and did not return.

In the taxi’s internal black box footage released by Mr. A, Ms. B says, "I’ll come down with cash. I’m very drunk," and explains her home location. Mr. A responds, "Many people say that but then ignore me," refusing to wait.

Ms. B then says, "Not me. Look at my face. Please wait just a little," looking at Mr. A.

Nevertheless, Mr. A again expressed refusal, saying, "People like this do it more often."

Then Ms. B said, "No, who would do that these days? I’ll go home and come back. Please stay here," got out of the taxi, and ran home. She did not return afterward.

Mr. A expressed late regret, saying, "When I said I couldn’t trust her, she told me to trust her face. I waited, thinking I was being deceived, but after 25 minutes there was no sign of her. I should have at least held onto her phone."

He added, "This is the sorrow of a taxi (driver). If you say trust me, you have to trust, and if you say wait, you have to wait like a dog. I want to shame this woman who abandoned her conscience for 9,000 won."

Meanwhile, fare evasion is punishable by a fine of up to 100,000 won under the Minor Offenses Act. If it is habitual or if there is intent from the beginning with no intention to pay, fraud charges under the Criminal Act may apply, resulting in imprisonment of up to 10 years or a fine of up to 20 million won.
