[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] Shin Sujeong, Vice President and Head of KT Enterprise Division, is a leading IT and security expert within the company. Currently, as the head of a core organization responsible for KT's future growth engines, he contributes to enhancing the company's value.
Born in 1965, Vice President Shin graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in Mechanical Design Engineering. He then pursued a master's degree and a doctoral program in Computer-Aided Design at the same university's graduate school. Although he is currently in office, he is not a traditional KT man. He began his career at Samsung Hewlett-Packard, worked as a consultant at Samsung SDS, and served as the head of the research institute at NetSecure Technology. Later, he held the positions of Head of Consulting and Business General Manager at SK Infosec, briefly worked at SK C&C, and then returned to SK Infosec as CEO to lead the company.
He joined KT in 2014, recruited as the Head of Information Security during Chairman Hwang Chang-gyu's tenure. Afterward, he served as the Head of the Information and Communication Planning Office and was promoted to Vice President of the same office in December 2017.
In fact, the information and communication sector, which focuses on infrastructure maintenance, management, and research and development, does not have many performance indicators to showcase as business achievements. Nevertheless, Vice President Shin consistently delivered results by supplying new work tools and services within the company. Robot Process Automation (RPA) tools such as Jeon Daeri and Ma Biseo, which were applied to KT's internal network and led to annual cost savings exceeding 7 billion KRW, are known to be Vice President Shin's creations.
Since 2020, he has been leading KT's B2B business as the head of the Enterprise Division. The Enterprise Division, under his leadership, is considered a core organization in the group's digital transformation (DX) efforts. As growth in the traditional telecommunications business stagnates, this division has emerged as an alternative business driving KT's overall revenue growth. The Enterprise Division consolidated assets from AI, big data, and cloud business units that were previously scattered across the company.
The results since he took charge have been favorable. Last year, B2B business revenue increased by 88.9% compared to the previous year, and the cumulative order amount grew by 13.2% year-over-year.
Vice President Shin is also known within the company as a ‘Deokjang’ (a respected leader) due to his active internal and external communication. He writes emails containing ideas or helpful content for the organization and enjoys interacting through platforms like Facebook. Based on his writings and experiences, he has authored several books, including The Dignity of Work and Time of Insight.
