Recruitment of Participating Institutions for Gwanak-gu-Seoul National University SAM Mentoring

Seoul National University Students Become Mentors to Elementary, Middle, and High School Students in the Area, Providing Academic Guidance and Career Counseling

Participating Schools and Institutions to be Recruited Until March 9

Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) is recruiting participating institutions for Seoul National University’s ‘SAM Mentoring’ program, a collaboration between Seoul National University and the district office, until March 9.

‘SAM (SNU Active Mentoring)’ is a program where Seoul National University students serve as mentors to students from 3rd grade elementary to 2nd grade high school within the local area, visiting schools and institutions directly to provide academic guidance and career counseling.

The district utilizes Seoul National University’s excellent resources to enhance local educational competitiveness and conducts this program annually to improve youth academic abilities and foster proper emotional development through academic guidance and career and personal counseling.

Last year, a total of 999 participants from 32 elementary, middle, and high schools and 46 local children’s centers took part, showing positive results such as improved academic achievement, increased confidence, and better interpersonal skills among the youth.

This year, during the first semester from March to June, 40 Seoul National University student mentors will provide free mentoring sessions totaling 20 sessions of 2 hours each to 120 elementary, middle, and high school students. Each mentor will guide 2 to 3 mentees in small groups to enhance the quality of mentoring and focus more on motivating mentees and improving their academic skills.

Youth mentees participating in the mentoring will receive free academic guidance and career counseling opportunities, while mentors (Seoul National University students) will be awarded educational volunteer credits and 1365 volunteer hours.

Institutions (schools, local children’s centers) wishing to participate in the mentoring program can register on the SAM Mentoring website by 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 9. Matching results will be announced on March 22 at 6 p.m. on the SAM Mentoring website.

For more detailed information, please contact the Seoul National University SAM Mentoring Office.

A district official stated, “We hope this will be a great opportunity for young people starting the new semester to gain motivation for learning through Seoul National University’s SAM Mentoring,” and added, “We will continue to strive to provide competitive educational content by utilizing Seoul National University’s excellent educational resources.”
