Last Year, Global TV Market Recorded a 29.7% Share

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Pyeonghwa] Samsung Electronics has achieved the number one position in the global TV market for 17 consecutive years from 2006 to last year.

On the 21st, market research firm Omdia announced the global TV market statistics for last year. According to the statistics, Samsung Electronics recorded a 29.7% market share by value last year, ranking first. This was thanks to its premium product strategy centered on Neo QLED.

In the premium TV market priced above $2,500, the total QLED value share, including Samsung, is 46.2%. Since 2019, it has maintained over 40%, becoming a major product in the premium TV segment. Samsung Electronics' QLED sales volume also reached 9.65 million units last year.

Samsung Electronics also maintained the number one position in the premium market and the large-sized market of 75 inches and above. Samsung's premium TV market share by value is 48.6%. In the large-sized market of 75 inches and above, it recorded a 36.1% market share. In particular, in the extra-large market of 80 inches and above, it recorded a 42.9% value share, showing strength in the extra-large TV market.

Samsung Electronics stated that innovative products such as 8K, Neo QLED, and lifestyle TVs, as well as a 'customer experience-centered DNA' that continuously enhanced user experience, were the reasons behind achieving the number one position for 17 consecutive years.

Samsung Electronics increased its global TV market dominance by introducing products such as ‘Bordeaux’ in 2006, ‘LED TV’ in 2009, and ‘Smart TV’ in 2011. In 2017, it announced the start of next-generation TVs by launching QLED with quantum dot technology. In 2018, it introduced ‘QLED 8K’, and in 2021, it unveiled ‘Neo QLED’ based on quantum mini LED and ‘Micro LED’, which emits its own light and color, for the first time. In addition, it has released unique products reflecting consumer lifestyles and preferences, such as ‘The Serif’, ‘The Frame’, and ‘The Sero’.

Last year, Samsung expanded the application of eco-friendly solar cell remote controls to all TV models. It also revealed eco-friendly efforts for a sustainable future, such as improving eco-packaging that allows product packaging materials to be upcycled into everyday items. It also introduced portable screens like ‘The Freestyle’ and ‘OLED’ to the market.

Samsung Electronics plans to enhance support for ‘SmartThings’ in its TV lineup to provide high connectivity and improve the ‘Samsung Smart Hub’ to offer consumers a diverse screen experience. Kim Cheol-gi, Vice President of Samsung Electronics’ Visual Display Business Division, said, “The result of being number one in the world for 17 consecutive years is thanks to the love of consumers who trusted and chose Samsung TVs,” and added, “We will continue to introduce customer experience-centered innovations to realize the hyper-connected era.”
