The New Government's Regional Cultural Policy Completes the Final Puzzle Piece

Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to Hold Comprehensive Forum Ahead of Next Month's Announcement

On the 24th, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will hold a comprehensive forum for establishing regional cultural policies at the main auditorium of the National Hangeul Museum in Seoul. Ahead of the announcement of the 'New Government Regional Culture Promotion Policy' next month, this forum will be the final opportunity to gather on-site opinions. Experts will discuss the government policy proposal that reflects the opinions from three previous regional forums. Participants include Professor Im Hak-soon of Catholic University, chair of the Regional Culture Cooperation Committee, former president of the National Regional Culture Foundation Association Park Sang-eon, Professor Seo Woo-seok of the University of Seoul, Professor Yoo Seung-ho of Kangwon National University, research fellow Jang Se-gil of the Jeonbuk Research Institute, and Professor Lee Seung-woo of Daegu Haany University LINC+ Project Group.

In previous regional forums, the need to expand opportunities for enjoying high-quality cultural services in regions, cultivate specialized regional cultural personnel, and promote horizontal cultural exchange and cooperation was raised. The government shows considerable willingness to accept these suggestions. Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Park Bo-gyun emphasized in this year's work report, "The era of local regions unfolds through culture. Increasing the cultural satisfaction of local residents is essential to prevent regional extinction," and added, "We will support the reproduction of cases like the Bilbao Guggenheim Museum in Spain, where abandoned local facilities were reborn through culture."
