Wando-gun Accelerates Progress on 10 Key Core Tasks

Establishing a Foundation for Wando's Great Leap Forward through Systematic Project Implementation

According to the county on the 15th, a ‘2023 County Government Major Core Task Promotion Strategy Meeting’ was held on the 10th at the county office situation room. Department heads, including County Governor Shin Woo-cheol, attended and discussed departmental linkage plans and cooperation measures with the National Assembly, central government ministries, and Jeollanam-do.

The top 10 core tasks for Wando-gun in 2023 are △Marine Healing Industry △Marine Bio Industry △Establishment of a Marine Tourism Hub City △Large-scale SOC projects such as Wando?Gwangju Expressway, Wando?Goheung Coastal Tourism Road, and Nohwa?Soan Island Bridge △National Subtropical Arboretum △National Marine Fisheries Museum △Investment Attraction △Overseas Market Development △Large-scale Events and Festivals △Long-term Measures to Overcome Drought.

On the day, discussions on the marine healing industry included operation of the marine healing center, tourism linkage, and attracting private investment in tourism and resorts. For the marine bio industry, they discussed attracting and operating research institutions and companies and analyzing outcomes. For establishing a marine tourism hub city, they discussed measures to attract tourists linked to large-scale festivals and events.

Next, for large-scale SOC projects, key points were set such as early commencement of the second phase of the Gwangju?Wando Expressway and preparation of plans to include the exemption project for the preliminary feasibility study of the Wando?Goheung Coastal Tourism Road. They also sought ways to secure early commencement and budget for the National Subtropical Arboretum and to pass the preliminary feasibility study and pre-evaluation for establishing the National Marine Fisheries Museum.

Investment attraction focused on creating conditions such as administrative procedure compliance and linkage with the marine healing industry. Measures to resolve drought, including connecting the metropolitan water supply network, were also prioritized.

The county plans to meticulously monitor the progress of the top 10 core tasks by establishing an annual operation plan covering progress, issues, and countermeasures, and holding regular reporting meetings.

Governor Shin Woo-cheol said, “I hope the core projects will be systematically promoted to prevent any leakage in administrative procedures and budget execution by central government ministries.” He added, “Since project promotion may accelerate according to changes and trends of the times, please prepare thoroughly in advance to seize opportunities when they arise.”
