30% Increase in Surgeries Within One Year of Opening
Outpatient Visits Up 45% · Inpatient Admissions Up 65%

[Asia Economy Reporter Myunghwan Lee] Ewha Urology Hospital has shown an upward trend in all medical service areas, including surgeries, patients, and examinations, just one year after starting its medical services.

Ewha Urology Hospital began outpatient and examination services last February on the 1st to 3rd floors of MCC Building A (Annex) at Ewha Mokdong Hospital.

The hospital explained that the growth of Ewha Urology Hospital is clearly reflected in the increase in the number of surgeries. First, the total number of surgeries increased by 30% in 2022 compared to 2021, before the opening of Ewha Urology Hospital. In particular, the number of robotic surgeries increased more than threefold from February last year to January this year. A representative from Ewha Urology Hospital stated, "The number of robot-assisted radical prostatectomies increased more than sixfold."

Robot-assisted radical prostatectomy is a minimally invasive surgical method to remove the prostate using a robot. It has the advantage of minimizing postoperative complications.

Professor Wanseok Kim of Ewha Urology Hospital (Head of Urology at Ewha Mokdong Hospital) said, "Ewha Urology Hospital is treating urological diseases such as bladder cancer through state-of-the-art robotic surgeries, including the 4th generation Da Vinci SP robotic surgical system, and is seeking the best methods to improve patients' quality of life."

Outpatient and inpatient numbers are also increasing. Since Ewha Urology Hospital opened, outpatient visits have increased by 45%, and inpatient admissions by about 65%. In the examination sector, there has been a 70% increase in cystoscopy, 60% in prostate ultrasound, and 40% in uroflowmetry.

The hospital also explained that pursuing medical specialization just one year after starting services contributed to this growth. They sought specialization in all urological diseases.
