[Asia Economy Reporters O Ju-yeon and Park Jun-i] On the morning of the 10th, the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea appeared at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office for the second round of summons investigation related to the Daejang-dong and Wirye New Town development allegations. This is the third summons investigation this year, but this time he appeared 'alone.' Previously, dozens of lawmakers accompanied him during the first and second summons, causing internal party conflicts, so this time he decided not to be accompanied even by minimal staff such as the secretary-general or spokesperson. The Democratic Party plans to strengthen its full-scale opposition struggle, including the 'Kim Gun-hee Special Prosecutor.'
On that day, just before appearing at the prosecution, the leader emphasized at the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly, "We must seriously accept the will of the people contained in the impeachment motion against (Minister of the Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min)." He only commented on the approval of the impeachment motion against Minister Lee and refrained as much as possible from making statements related to his own prosecution investigation.
Unlike usual when he was the first to speak as party leader, at this meeting he yielded the order to other Supreme Council members and spoke last. The leader said to the government and ruling party, "We will do our best to ensure independent fact-finding regarding the Itaewon disaster and follow-up measures such as a special prosecutor," and added, "I ask President Yoon Seok-yeol to personally meet the bereaved families of the Itaewon disaster, apologize, and take the lead in healing their wounds."
After the Supreme Council meeting ended that day, the leader headed straight to Seocho-dong. On the same day, Park Beom-gye, chairman of the Democratic Party's Countermeasures Committee Against Prosecutorial Dictatorship and Political Oppression, appeared on MBC Radio and said, "The prosecution's repeated summons, not just once or twice but continuously, is itself an abuse of power. Nevertheless, since they call, (the leader) goes," and added, "(The prosecution) said they prepared many questions, but I understand that all the questions prepared last time were addressed. No matter how many additional questions there are, I think the answers will be consistent."
The Democratic Party plans to intensify its opposition struggle through measures such as the 'Kim Gun-hee Special Prosecutor.' On that day, Floor Leader Park Hong-geun said at the Supreme Council meeting, "Today is the first trial verdict for the Deutsche Motors stock manipulation suspicion case," and added, "Many citizens are closely watching the court's judgment on the allegations of Kim Gun-hee's involvement in stock manipulation." He emphasized, "All the key issues in the trial are connected to the suspicions surrounding Mrs. Kim, and I believe the court will make a judgment that aligns with the common sense of the people."
