Hanchang, Jindo Thermal Decomposition Plant 'Operational'... First Completion in Korea

[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] Hanchang announced that the completion permit for the pyrolysis plant for waste plastics established in Jindo-gun, Jeollanam-do was finalized on the 9th, and the plant will officially begin operations.

To realize a circular economy and carbon neutrality, the government revised the Enforcement Rules of the Waste Management Act last November to allow pyrolysis oil from waste plastics to be recycled as raw materials for petrochemical products. With installation standards for pyrolysis facilities established, Hanchang’s Jindo pyrolysis plant has attracted market attention as the first to receive a completion permit after the revised law took effect.

Hanchang’s Jindo pyrolysis plant is equipped with the ‘VESTA-10,’ a proprietary specialized technology developed by its subsidiary Hanchang Green Holdings. The VESTA-10 is a low-temperature pyrolysis oilification facility that can recycle 100% of not only land-based waste plastics but also marine waste such as discarded fishing nets and gear, enabling resource recovery. It can operate stably for 300 days annually and produce high-purity refined oil (naphtha) through catalytic cracking refining technology.

A company official stated, “The VESTA-10 is an advanced technology that surpasses the limitations of existing pyrolysis technologies and is expected to set a new milestone in pyrolysis technology. In particular, it is highly significant that it is the first to receive a completion permit after thorough inspections of the appropriateness and safety of the facility structure in accordance with the recently revised installation standards for pyrolysis facilities.”

He added, “With the Jindo plant officially operational, we plan to promptly proceed with exporting the VESTA-10 plant and domestic orders, which have been discussed with domestic and international companies, as well as generating profits through the sale of pyrolysis refined oil.”
