‘Anyone Can Become an Expert by Learning’… Dong-A University Wins Grand Prize and Excellence Award at Big Data Competition

Students from 11 National Universities' LINC3.0 Project Teams Compete

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Dong-A University students competed with students from LINC3.0 project groups nationwide and seized the championship of the ‘CDS Big Data Competition.’ CDS stands for ‘Citizen Data Scientist,’ a non-curricular program meaning ‘anyone can become a big data expert.’


Dong-A University Industry-Academia Cooperation Leading University Development Project Group (LINC3.0, Director Park Jun-hong) announced on the 9th that they won the Grand Prize and Excellence Award at the ‘3rd CDS Big Data Competition.’


The competition, hosted by the CDS Big Data University Alliance, was attended by 85 students from 11 universities nationwide conducting the LINC 3.0 project, including Dong-A University.


Students from Dong-A University, Kyungpook National University, Daejeon University, Pusan National University, Chonnam National University, Jeonju University, Jeju National University, Chosun University, Korea National University of Transportation, Korea Maritime and Ocean University, and Hanyang University participated, and the competition was held online at the end of January.

‘Anyone Can Become an Expert by Learning’… Dong-A University Wins Grand Prize and Excellence Award at Big Data Competition Graduates of the 'CDS Anyone Can Be a Big Data Expert' training conducted by the Dong-A University LINC 3.0 Project Group are taking a commemorative photo.

Participants chose one of two problems presented by the organizers: ‘Behavior Classification’ or ‘Energy Production Prediction.’ Using a drag & drop data analysis solution, they analyzed data and selected the optimal estimation algorithm over three hours to reach conclusions.


In this competition, Dong-A University students Kim Da-hye (Department of Computer Engineering, 3rd year), Moon Seok-hyun (Department of Electronic Engineering, 3rd year), and Kim Jong-ho (Department of Computer Engineering, 3rd year) received the Grand Prize, the Dong-A University President’s Award.


Also, students Jung Se-hyung (Department of Electronic Engineering, 2nd year), Kim Ki-ryeong (Department of Physical Education, 4th year), and Nam Gwi-yeon (Department of Computer Engineering, 3rd year) won the Excellence Award, the CDS Big Data University Alliance President’s Award.


The Dong-A University LINC 3.0 project group conducted ‘CDS Anyone Can Be a Big Data Expert’ training from December last year to January this year in preparation for this competition, and the top nine students who passed the exam participated in the competition.


Director Park Jun-hong said, “We hope that students develop the ability to analyze and utilize big data across broad areas such as management, marketing, and production, and become 4th industrial revolution talents demanded by companies.”
