[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Dongmyung University conducted a patent camp and competition for three days from the 30th to the 1st in Sacheon, Gyeongnam.

Twenty-one enrolled students participated in the camp, receiving mentoring to refine their idea proposals and training on patent specification writing. Prior to this, the students attended a kickoff meeting on January 11 and preliminary training on January 18.

All 40 ideas proposed during the camp were electronically filed directly by the students without the assistance of patent attorneys.

The encouragement awards were given to six ideas, including a scissor-shaped necklace wearing device. Eleven awardees received a total prize money of 2.3 million KRW.

Student Jeong Hyun-je, who participated in the camp, said, “While other camps focused mainly on interviews and practical exercises, this camp allowed us to thoroughly experience the specific process of how patents are filed,” adding, “Mentors provided various reference materials and explanations for patent applications, enabling smooth activities.”

No Seong-yeo, head of the Startup Education Center, said, “I hope the ideas of those who did their best will proceed from application to registration,” and added, “We will fully support the submission of students’ patent ideas to global patent competitions so that they can stand on the world stage beyond Korea and connect to global employment and startups.”
