Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education, Additional Support for School Public Utility Fees

Reflecting a 5 Billion KRW Supplementary Budget for Electricity and Gas Charges

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] The Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education recently decided to provide additional support for public utility charges to reduce the financial burden on frontline schools caused by the increase in public utility fees.

According to the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education on the 8th, although schools are operating normal curricula as daily life recovers from COVID-19, the financial conditions of schools have worsened due to the rise in public utility charges such as electricity fees.

Due to the rise in international raw material prices and public utility charges, the increase is expected to be greater in the future, further intensifying the financial burden on frontline schools.

Accordingly, the Office of Education decided to provide additional support for public utility charges such as electricity and gas to reduce the burden on schools, enabling students and faculty to focus on educational activities in a comfortable environment.

The additional support amount totals 5 billion KRW for all public and private schools in the province, with an average of 5 million KRW provided per school, and the budget will be secured through the first supplementary budget of this year.

Lee Seon-guk, Head of the Budget Division, said, “Energy saving is important, but education should not be hindered due to a lack of budget for heating and cooling costs at schools,” and added, “We are proactively providing support by anticipating the financial burden on schools, so please make efforts to ensure that students and faculty can concentrate on educational activities in a comfortable environment.”
