Ulsan District Court Sentences 50-Year-Old to Prison for Retaliation Against Neighboring Mother and Child
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] A man in his 50s who threatened a mother and son next door over noise and retaliated with assault after they reported him was sentenced to prison.
The Ulsan District Court Criminal Division 11 (Chief Judge Park Hyun-bae) announced on the 5th that it sentenced Mr. A, who was tried on charges of retaliatory assault (violation of the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes) and special threats, to 1 year and 6 months in prison.
According to the Ulsan District Court, Mr. A, who lives in Ulju-gun, kicked the front door and verbally abused and threatened with a blunt weapon the mother and son, Mr. B (in his 20s), next door in August 2021, complaining that they were making loud noises.
After being reported and investigated by the police for this incident, Mr. A held a grudge and stabbed Mr. B’s eye with his finger and struck Mr. B’s mother with a cleaning tool, causing injuries requiring two weeks of medical treatment.
The court stated, “The crime is serious as the defendant threatened and assaulted the victims, with whom he had a bad relationship due to noise issues,” and added, “Considering the defendant’s multiple prior convictions for violent crimes and that the crime was committed during the probation period.”
