Geochang-gun Decides on Emergency Heating Cost Support for Vulnerable Groups

Additional 50,000 KRW Heating Support for Basic Livelihood Security Households

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam Province, will provide an additional 50,000 KRW per household in heating cost support to vulnerable groups (basic livelihood security recipients) in the area who are suffering from the dual hardships of cold waves and rising heating expenses.

This decision was quickly made by the county in line with the government's support measures, which double the energy voucher support amount for vulnerable groups and double the discount rate on gas bills.

The county plans to use 138 million KRW from the disaster management fund to support heating costs for about 1,840 households eligible for the government's energy voucher support and about 907 households that do not qualify.

With this support, all basic livelihood security recipient households in the area will receive heating cost assistance, which is expected to somewhat alleviate the burden on vulnerable groups struggling with their livelihoods.

County Governor Goo In-mo said, "This winter, due to unprecedented cold waves and rising heating costs, the lives of vulnerable groups are expected to become more difficult, and health management will also be challenging," adding, "We will take more meticulous care centered on the field to ensure no welfare blind spots occur."

Geochang-gun plans to implement measures to protect vulnerable groups against cold waves, including installing AI speakers to identify at-risk households, strengthening checks on vulnerable groups using personnel managing elderly living alone, and utilizing senior centers as cold wave shelters.
