"100,000 Won Each for All Citizens"… Nationwide Heating Cost Support Proposed by Jo Kyung-tae

People Power Party Lawmaker Proposes 100,000 Won Support per Citizen Nationwide
"21.44 Million Households 100,000 Won Each for 3 Months, 6.4 Trillion Won Total"

[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] "The total number of households in our country is 21.44 million. So, if you calculate 100,000 won per household for 3 months, it is estimated to be about 6.4 trillion won."

On the 30th, Jo Kyung-tae, a member of the People Power Party who declared his candidacy for the party leader, appeared on MBC Radio's 'Kim Jong-bae's Focus' and emphasized the need for temporary nationwide heating cost support. It is noteworthy that a People Power Party lawmaker proposed nationwide heating cost support.

In response to the host's question, "Is the intention to support all citizens and all households regardless of income?" Jo replied, "Yes, that's right."

Jo said, "People who pay taxes should also receive benefits," adding, "Many regular salaried workers are repaying loan interest. Due to the recent sharp rise in heating costs, the burden felt is very significant."

Regarding the energy voucher policy for vulnerable groups, Jo pointed out, "There are about 1.17 million energy voucher households. This group is usually supported regularly," and added, "Now, for most citizens, gas prices have risen so much that heating costs have surged sharply."

Jo criticized the claim that heating costs rose because the Moon Jae-in administration did not raise them as a 'pointless dispute.'

Jo stated, "We are the ruling party, aren't we? If we are in power, we have the duty to take responsibility for the people's livelihood," and argued, "The idea that because prices were not raised before, they should all be raised now is a very dangerous notion."

Jo added, "Now is not the time to blame the previous administration or others. We must come up with solutions for the difficulties and hardships the current citizens are facing."
