[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] The Korea Communications Commission announced on the 26th that it will conduct a 'Broadcast Advertising Production and Transmission Cost Support Project Contest' targeting small business owners in collaboration with the Korea Broadcast Advertising Corporation.
The 'Local Community-Based Broadcast Advertising Activation Infrastructure Project' is a program that the KCC has been supporting since 2020 to help small business owners produce broadcast advertisements and transmit them through local broadcast media.
This year, a total of 1.59 billion KRW will be provided to 177 small business owners for broadcast advertising production and transmission costs. Eligible recipients are small business owners and small manufacturers who have received a small business certificate from the Ministry of SMEs and Startups. Selected small business owners through screening will receive support for up to 90% of the advertising transmission costs via local terrestrial and cable broadcasts in their area, with a maximum limit of 9 million KRW.
Small business owners selected as support recipients will be systematically assisted through free one-on-one customized consulting (advice) covering overall marketing, including broadcast advertising production and transmission, provided by local advertising experts.
To strengthen support for outstanding small business owners, additional points have been awarded during the application process to small business operators in livelihood-suitable industries, Baeknyeon Gage (century-old stores), and Baeknyeon Sogongin (century-old small manufacturers). This year, to revitalize the local startup ecosystem and expand youth support, entrepreneurs participating in region-led youth job projects have been added as additional point recipients.
Small business owners who receive support and wish to continue broadcasting advertisements afterward can receive up to a 70% discount on broadcast advertising transmission fees, jointly implemented by broadcasters such as KBS and MBC and the Korea Broadcast Advertising Corporation.
Small business owners who were previously unable to advertise on broadcasts due to lack of information and financial burdens have shown high satisfaction through this project by being able to advertise on local media, resulting in increased brand awareness and sales growth. Small business owners who received support benefits last year showed an average sales growth of 17.9% compared to the previous year despite the crises of COVID-19, high interest rates, high exchange rates, and high inflation.
The application period for the contest is until the 14th of next month. The selection results are scheduled to be announced in March.
