[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Gyeongsang National University will hold a completion ceremony for the newly constructed ‘Pioneering Medical Complex Building’ at Chilam Campus on the 27th at 11:30 a.m.
The College of Medicine at Gyeongsang National University demolished the old medical building and built a completely new Pioneering Medical Complex Building to establish essential facilities in preparation for the medical college accreditation evaluation and the national medical licensing examination, in response to changes in the medical education system.
Gyeongsang National University stated that the Pioneering Medical Complex Building has become an opportunity to stand tall as a ‘mecca for nurturing regional medical talents as a national hub national medical school’ by securing infrastructure necessary for operating education programs to strengthen future medical capabilities and training core public medical personnel to overcome infectious diseases after COVID-19.
The Pioneering Medical Complex Building has one basement floor and six above-ground floors, with a building area of 1,618㎡ and a total floor area of 7,007㎡. Construction began in September 2019 and was completed on December 31, 2022, with the opening ceremony held on this day. The total project cost was 16.521 billion KRW funded by the national government.
On the first floor of the Pioneering Medical Complex Building, a large lecture hall accommodating 300 people is located, and on the second floor, essential facilities for the medical college accreditation evaluation and the practical exam of the national medical licensing examination, such as the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) room and Clinical Performance Examination (CPX) rooms totaling 20, are arranged.
The third floor houses a tiered lecture hall, microscope practice room, basic practice room, and auxiliary facilities; the fourth floor includes general lecture rooms and a reading room; the fifth floor contains a multimedia learning room, medical education innovation center, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation training room to build infrastructure for training public medical personnel. The sixth floor provides student spaces such as 18 club rooms and a student autonomy room, which are basic facilities for medical college accreditation evaluation, thereby strengthening student welfare.
All rooms within the Pioneering Medical Complex Building are constructed with eco-friendly materials, and stable power supply facilities such as emergency generators and broadcasting equipment suitable for the national licensing examination have been thoroughly installed to create the best facilities.
About 120 people are expected to attend the completion ceremony, including Gyeongsang National University President Kwon Soon-ki, College of Medicine Dean Woo Hyang-ok, academic committee members, medical college officials, faculty, students, and guests from political and administrative institutions in Gyeongnam Province as well as medical education-related organizations.
