Jeonnam Police Ensure 'Peaceful and Safe Public Order' During Lunar New Year Holiday

Average Daily Decrease of 2.1% Compared to Same Period Last Year

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Jeonnam Police announced on the 25th that they implemented a 'Comprehensive Security Plan for the Lunar New Year Holiday' for two weeks from the 11th to the 24th, maintaining a peaceful security status without major incidents or accidents, with 112 crime reports decreasing by an average of 2.1% per day compared to the same period last year.

Considering that 112 reports and traffic volume increase during the Lunar New Year holiday compared to usual, Jeonnam Police focused on ▲ crime prevention activities through prior inspections and visible patrols at crime-prone locations ▲ ensuring traffic safety and minimizing traffic inconvenience.

First, the Crime Prevention Diagnosis Team (CPO) of the police station conducted security diagnoses (3,991 times) and promoted crime prevention and reporting guidelines (3,448 times) at vulnerable facilities such as financial institutions, unmanned stores, and jewelry shops.

They carried out flexible patrols at vulnerable times and locations requested by residents, and together with cooperative organizations such as the Neighborhood Watch (5,021 members), conducted visible patrol activities to ensure residents could spend the Lunar New Year holiday with peace of mind through crime prevention efforts.

Additionally, anticipating an increase in domestic violence reports during the holiday, they conducted careful monitoring of 896 households at risk of recurrence before the holiday.

Furthermore, they proactively deployed personnel to congested areas such as ▲ traditional markets ▲ large marts ▲ train stations ▲ terminals ▲ park cemeteries to focus on communication-centered traffic management.

To prevent accidents caused by 'black ice' for returning and departing vehicles, they strengthened safety activities by conducting emergency inspections of freezing-prone sections jointly with the road management authorities, resulting in a 4.0% daily average decrease in traffic accident casualties compared to the previous year.

On the last day of the holiday, when heavy snow fell, they did their best in traffic management by issuing emergency traffic duty orders and operating a traffic situation room for the safety of residents, while also promoting safe driving such as providing real-time traffic information, preventing drowsy driving, and encouraging seat belt use in all seats, thereby ensuring communication and alleviating public inconvenience.

A police official stated, “We will continue to carry out customized and reassuring security activities reflecting residents’ opinions to make Jeonnam the safest region.”
