[How About This Book] ‘Misaeng’ Returns as a Script Collection... Reviving the Emotions of That Time

[Asia Economy Reporter Seo Mideum] Jang Geurae: "It's not that I didn't work hard, but I'll think of it as not working hard enough. I came out into the world because I didn't work hard. I was abandoned because I didn't work hard."

Assistant Manager Seon: "I mistakenly think that the past is holding me back, but if you look closely, there are many times when I am the one holding onto the past."

Manager Oh: "Since you've already joined, try to endure somehow. Enduring is winning. To endure means, somehow, to move toward a complete life. You may not know, but there's a saying in Baduk: Misaeng, Wonsaeng. We are all still Misaeng."

Resigned Employee: "The company is a battlefield? Outside is hell."

[How About This Book] ‘Misaeng’ Returns as a Script Collection... Reviving the Emotions of That Time

Words easily evaporate, but lines are different. Especially memorable lines are remembered for a long time and are often quoted. The drama 'Misaeng' is one of them. Even though it ended 9 years ago, many office workers still have the lines of 'Misaeng' engraved in their hearts. In situations where they must endure, they call upon Jang Geurae; when caught in the sorrow of a working mom, Assistant Manager Seon; and when feeling unrecognized and hurt, Manager Oh is summoned.

Although well known as the original webtoon by cartoonist Yoon Tae-ho, the drama 'Misaeng' was reborn as a drama by writer Jung Yoon-jung. The script collection was published by Segyesa. The script book contains 30 pages of Jung Yoon-jung's writing story, filling the gaps between webtoon panels to create the drama. Despite the great success of the drama, the writer's anecdote of wondering "Why do people like it so much?" draws attention.

Late confessions from actors such as Im Si-wan, Kim Dae-myung, and Lee Sung-min are also included. Im Si-wan confessed, "I was clumsy and lacking, but I still don't want to forget. Because the me at that time had emotions that the current me can never express." Kim Dae-myung reminisced, "Playing Kim Dong-sik was like a dream. I hoped to tell stories close to life, like a laundry man or an uncle, in a familiar and friendly role." Lee Sung-min said, "Filming a work doesn't easily change one's attitude or philosophy toward life. But since many people think of Oh Sang-sik when they see me, I try to live life humbly without straying too far from his category."

Director Kim Won-seok's four-hour interview is also included in each volume. He says, "Excluding someone is an unhealthy solidarity. This is also why Jang Geurae felt intense loneliness at the beginning of his internship," and adds, "So I like a somewhat loose solidarity that is always open to people you get along with, who can rely on each other firmly but don't demand excessive control, and can also let go when it doesn't fit."

'Misaeng,' which delivers still relevant stories to those struggling anonymously in an uncertain world, comforts readers like this: "Still, see you tomorrow."
