[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Pohang City is promoting the ‘2023 Residential Low-NOx Boiler Installation Support Project,’ which provides subsidies to households installing low-NOx boilers.

The city has secured a total budget of 400 million KRW, including 240 million KRW in national funds this year, and plans to support subsidies for 3,000 units (2,800 for general households and 200 for low-income households) of low-NOx boilers.

Low-NOx boilers emit fewer nitrogen oxides, which are air pollutants, thereby improving air quality, and their high thermal efficiency is expected to reduce fuel costs.

The subsidy is 100,000 KRW for general households and 600,000 KRW for low-income households. Eligible low-income households include basic livelihood security recipients, near-poverty class, near-poverty disability pension recipients, and single-parent families.

The city has been accepting applications since the 10th for low-NOx boilers installed after January 1 of this year until the budget is exhausted. Homeowners or tenants authorized by homeowners can apply online or in person with the required documents.

Shin Jeong-hyeok, head of the Environmental Policy Division, said, “Eco-friendly low-NOx boilers can reduce air pollutants such as fine dust and are highly effective in reducing heating costs through increased energy efficiency. We will actively support so that many citizens can benefit.”

The residential low-NOx boiler installation support project has been continuously promoted since 2020, providing a total of 730 million KRW in support for 7,300 units to date.
