Viewer-Paid 'Super Chat' Rankings
Ad and View Count Revenues Also Expected to Be Significant
Broadcaster Kim Eo-jun, who stepped down from TBS Radio's 'News Factory,' earned up to 30 million won per day in 'Super Chat' revenue through the live broadcast of his newly launched show, 'Kim Eo-jun's Humility is Difficult News Factory' (hereafter News Factory). On that day, it recorded the highest Super Chat earnings among all YouTube channels worldwide.
Super Chat is a content purchasing platform introduced by YouTube in 2017, where viewers can financially support YouTubers during live broadcasts. Each viewer can donate between 1,000 and 500,000 won per transaction, with the revenue split being 70% to the YouTuber and 30% to YouTube.
It has been revealed that on the first day of starting the YouTube channel 'Kim Eo-jun's Humility is Difficult News Factory,' Kim Eo-jun earned nearly 30 million won in revenue through YouTube Super Chat. According to the YouTube ranking site Playboard on the 10th, News Factory earned 29,715,464 won solely from Super Chats on its first broadcast day, the 9th. This was the highest Super Chat revenue among all YouTube channels worldwide for that day, with earnings three times higher than the second and third-ranked channels.
News Factory secured the number one spot not only in South Korea but also globally in Super Chat rankings. The channel also surpassed 770,000 subscribers, suggesting that in addition to Super Chat revenue, earnings from advertisements and views are likely substantial.
On the first day of the broadcast, Kim officially declared a biased broadcast, stating, "The real power of the media prosecutors does not lie in reporting and prosecuting, but in burying matters that should have been reported and prosecuted. With that power, a cartel of vested interests is formed, and bad power is built on top of that cartel."
He added, "Such power mistakenly believes it can silence voices it does not want to hear. I will create cracks in that cartel," he declared.
Meanwhile, the number of subscribers to the TBS YouTube channel decreased by 160,000 over 11 days after Kim left. As of December 29 last year, the channel had 1.58 million subscribers, but by the 10th, it had dropped to 1.42 million. 'Kim Eo-jun's News Factory,' which Kim hosted on TBS, was discontinued after its last broadcast on December 30 last year.
