Seoul City Publishes Two Guides Including Workplace Sexual Harassment Prevention Response Manual

[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] The Seoul Workplace Sexual Harassment and Violence Prevention Center announced on the 26th the publication of the 2022 essay contest award collection titled 'Still Working, Still Fighting,' which introduces cases of workplace sexual harassment and response measures.

There were many cases of resignation due to sexual harassment experienced by newcomers to the workforce. Even in cases where resignation was not voluntarily chosen, workers in vulnerable positions such as contract workers lost their jobs due to contract expiration or dismissal after reporting sexual harassment.

On the other hand, in cases where victims of sexual harassment were able to continue working without resigning, 'solidarity among organizational members' and 'organizational-level responses' were helpful. Especially in large organizations, there were cases where internal response procedures operated systematically or organizational sexual harassment prevention education was conducted, assisting the victim's return to work.

Through the award-winning essay collection of this contest, it is expected to widely share the courageous voices of sexual harassment victims and be utilized as materials for improving workplace organizational culture or sexual harassment prevention education.

Additionally, the center published a revised edition of the 'Workplace Sexual Harassment Response Guidebook "This Book It Check Better Than Searching",' which provides the latest information following amendments and enforcement of laws related to workplace sexual harassment. It contains guidance on preparations before responding to workplace sexual harassment, internal response procedures, and legal (administrative and judicial) response procedures.

The essay collection 'Still Working, Still Fighting' and the 'Workplace Sexual Harassment Response Guidebook "This Book It Check Better Than Searching"' can be downloaded for free from the center's website, and the essay collection is also available as a free e-book at online bookstores Aladin, Yes24, and Ridibooks.

Jihyun Kang, Gender Equality Officer of Seoul City, said, “I hope the essay collection and the workplace sexual harassment response guidebook will help victims seek their rights,” adding, “We will continue to promote support measures for the prevention and response to workplace sexual harassment.”
