[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seoul Gangseo-gu (District Mayor Kim Tae-woo) is creating a ‘Digital Dullegil’ integrated with advanced technology.
The district announced that it is establishing the nation’s first ‘Gangseo Digital Dullegil for Health and Safety.’
The ‘Gangseo Digital Dullegil Creation Project’ is a project that utilizes information and communication technologies (ICT) such as artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and wired/wireless networks?core technologies of the digital era?to help residents use the Dullegil safely and conveniently.
This project was selected as Seoul City’s ‘2022 Best Regional Informatization Project,’ chosen as one of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s ‘Top 10 Excellent Cases of Regional Digital Services,’ and won the Minister of the Interior and Safety Award at the 39th Regional Informatization Research Project Presentation Conference.
The construction site is the entire area of Ujangsan Neighborhood Park (359,435㎡), located in the heart of Gangseo-gu’s old downtown, with completion targeted by the end of February next year.
The Digital Dullegil will have a self-owned optical cable network capable of transmitting and receiving large volumes of data at high speed, and 33 public Wi-Fi units installed at 150m intervals to enable free internet access anywhere.
Additionally, three ‘Smart Zones’ equipped with smart safety shelters, smart health poles, and digital information boards will be installed.
The ‘Smart Safety Shelter’ is equipped with air conditioning and heating systems so visitors can rest comfortably avoiding summer heat and winter cold, and features health measurement devices allowing anyone to easily check their health.
The ‘Smart Health Pole’ automatically displays exercise counts, duration, and calories burned, helping residents engage in systematic exercise.
The ‘Digital Information Board’ provides useful information ranging from various district administration details to health and safety information.
The Smart Zones will be linked to the district’s established ‘Data Integration Platform’ to provide real-time, up-to-date information.
The district expects that once this project is successfully completed, the ‘Digital Dullegil’ initiative will spread nationwide.
District Mayor Kim Tae-woo said, “With the creation of the Digital Dullegil, residents will be able to enjoy the park more safely and healthily, and experience digital public administration up close. We will continue to actively utilize smart infrastructure and digital platforms to realize a ‘Digital Platform District Administration’ where all residents can conveniently and easily access information.”
Songpa-gu (District Mayor Seo Gang-seok) announced that as part of the 8th term administration’s pledge for the ‘Intersection Traffic and Safety Improvement Project,’ the structural improvement of the Wirye Seong-daero Nam 2 Gate intersection will be completed by the end of December.
The Wirye Seong-daero Nam 2 Gate intersection had insufficient waiting space for left-turn lanes and shared U-turn lanes for vehicles entering from Wirye Seong-daero toward Bangi-dong, causing vehicles to encroach into the straight lanes, resulting in severe traffic congestion and a very high risk of accidents due to sudden lane changes.
In response, the district explained that reflecting the current traffic situation due to changes in traffic conditions from urban development, it promoted the ‘Wirye Seong-daero Nam 2 Gate Intersection Structural Improvement Project’ to improve the existing intersection structure for smoother and safer traffic flow.
First, the wide median flowerbed located in the center of Wirye Seong-daero was removed, two lanes were newly created, and the left-turn and U-turn lanes were separated to secure waiting spaces for vehicles (9?10 cars for left-turn, 7?8 cars for U-turn).
With the separation of U-turn and left-turn lanes through this improvement project, the intersection, which previously had complex conflicts due to U-turns and left turns occurring at the same point, is expected to have much smoother and safer traffic flow.
Along with this, to ensure pedestrian safety for residents using Olympic Park and the bus stops in front of the park, the central pedestrian island at the crosswalk of Wirye Seong-daero Nam 2 Gate intersection was refurbished, and a flowerbed was separately created on one side of the pedestrian island to allow pedestrians to walk more safely away from vehicles.
Also, the crosswalk in front of Olympic Park’s Nam 2 Gate, which was located inside the park and did not align with the pedestrian axis of Wirye Seong-daero, was relocated toward Wirye Seong-daero to address the frequent jaywalking problem.
Furthermore, the district added a signal violation and speeding CCTV, currently installed toward Olympic Park intersection, to the Jamsil direction as well, fundamentally blocking vehicle speeding and improving safety so pedestrians can use the crosswalk with peace of mind even at night.
The district expects that through this improvement work, traffic flow at Nam 2 Gate intersection will improve, making traffic smoother and significantly reducing traffic accidents.
Songpa District Mayor Seo Gang-seok said, “Since taking office, I have been striving through proactive administration to improve residents’ safety and convenience. We will continue to focus on alleviating traffic inconveniences and enhancing safety for local residents by persistently improving congested areas and accident-prone spots.”
Seongheon Lee, Mayor of Seodaemun-gu, is reviewing materials at the electronic library corner inside the Lee Jin-ah Memorial Library, which began operation on the 20th of this month. The district plans to sequentially launch electronic library services at two district-run libraries and twelve public small libraries within this year.
Seodaemun-gu (District Mayor Lee Seong-heon) announced on the 22nd that it will establish electronic library corners at the district-run Lee Jin-ah Memorial Library, Hong Eun Dodam Library, and 12 public small libraries, and sequentially launch services within this year.
At the Seodaemun-gu electronic library corners, users can access ▲approximately 12,500 e-books, audiobooks, and e-magazines ▲over 10 million digital full-text materials and academic papers provided by the National Assembly Library and the National Library of Korea ▲theses from university libraries within the region.
Accordingly, it is expected that the convenience of information use and material selection for local residents will increase.
For this project, after the launch of the 8th term administration, the district signed an agreement with the National Assembly Library and leveraged the advantage of having many university libraries in the region by consulting with Yonsei University, Ewha Womans University, Myongji University, and others.
District Mayor Lee Seong-heon stated, “To meet the growing demand for electronic materials, we plan to build the Seodaemun-gu electronic library portal website next year and expand digital information utilization education for seniors and others.”
