[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] The Breast Cancer Center at the Catholic University Seoul St. Mary's Hospital recently announced on the 19th that it has surpassed 1,000 breast cancer surgeries.

The number of breast cancer surgeries at Seoul St. Mary's Hospital Breast Cancer Center has shown an average annual growth rate of over 10%. Since June 2019, in line with the growth in patient visits, the outpatient clinic space was expanded, and patient care has been conducted in an independent Breast Cancer Center, contributing to increased convenience and satisfaction for patients.

The Breast Cancer Center implements a "one-stop service" allowing patients visiting the center to undergo clinical examination, mammography, ultrasound, and biopsy all at once. For patients diagnosed with breast cancer, preoperative examinations are conducted immediately, and multidisciplinary consultation meetings involving pathology, radiation oncology, plastic surgery, medical oncology, and specialized nurses discuss surgical plans and postoperative adjuvant therapies to provide patients with the best medical services.

Through this, Seoul St. Mary's Hospital has consistently received the highest grade in the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service's breast cancer treatment adequacy evaluation, which assesses the appropriateness of breast cancer treatments such as surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. The 5-year survival rate of breast cancer surgery patients at Seoul St. Mary's Hospital (from 2000 to 2019) reaches 95.5%.

Park Woo-chan, Director of the Center (Professor of Breast Surgery), emphasized, "In mid-last month, we achieved a new record by surpassing 1,000 breast cancer surgeries annually, which we believe indicates that breast cancer care is now performing its role on the right track." He added, "All staff members of the Breast Cancer Center will continue to unite and do their best efforts."
