[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] On the 7th, Kwon Seong-dong, a member of the People Power Party, addressed the circulating speculation in political circles about Minister of Justice Han Dong-hoon being drafted for the party leadership election, stating, "It is something advocated by a very small minority," and added, "Minister Han will make his own decision."
After attending the first event of the pro-Yoon faction study group 'Gukmin Gonggam' that morning, he told reporters, "Minister Han has not been in office for long, and the party leadership election is scheduled for late February or early March next year, so the timeline is tight."
Regarding the 'Capital Region and MZ Generation representation theory' mentioned by Floor Leader Joo Ho-young, Kwon said, "Moving toward the capital region, people in their 20s and 30s, and a centrist orientation in the next general election is a correct election strategy," but added, "It is inappropriate to rigidly define 'which region the party leader should come from.'"
The pro-Yoon faction group 'Gukmin Gonggam' was originally scheduled to launch under the name 'Mindeulle,' but its launch was postponed after rumors of discord between Assemblymen Jang Je-won and Kwon surfaced in June. At the event, Assemblyman Jang also participated alongside Kwon, drawing attention as they shook hands.
Immediately after attending the meeting, Assemblyman Kwon posted on social media (SNS), stating, "There have been excessive interpretations and speculations about the relationship between Assemblyman Jang and me," dismissing the discord rumors. He said, "Assemblyman Jang and I have been comrades working together in legislative activities for a long time, and we must share unlimited responsibility for the success of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration," emphasizing, "(Moreover,) in the face of fierce attacks from the Democratic Party, division is self-destruction."
