Financial Supervisory Service Issues 'Consumer Alert' Over Payco App Signature Key Leak

Financial Supervisory Service Issues 'Consumer Alert' Over Payco App Signature Key Leak

[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-seop] As concerns over financial accidents arose due to the leakage of NHN Payco's application (app) signing key, the Financial Supervisory Service issued a consumer alert yesterday.

Links from unknown sources should never be clicked, and apps must be downloaded only through official application (app) markets. Requests to install apps sent by suspicious individuals should never be complied with. Apps installed via routes other than app markets, such as through text messages, should be deleted immediately, and if suspicious, the phone should be scanned with a vaccine app.

Recently, with the leakage of NHN Payco's app signing key, the risk of malicious apps disguised as the Payco app being distributed through abnormal channels has increased. In response, Payco announced that it will immediately discard the leaked signing key and redistribute the app using a new signing key through app markets.

The Financial Supervisory Service explained, "If you have not downloaded malicious apps through abnormal channels or entered personal information into malicious apps, no consumer damage will occur," and added, "There have been no direct cases of damage caused by the signing key leakage so far."
