Park Wan-su, Governor of Gyeongnam Province, is visiting Halla Cement's Changwon Distribution Base in Seongsan-gu, Changwon City, to assess the impact of the Cargo Solidarity General Strike.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Park Wansu, Governor of Gyeongnam Province, visited cement plants and construction sites affected by the collective transportation refusal of the Cargo Solidarity on the 3rd.
On the morning of the same day, Governor Park visited Halla Cement Changwon Distribution Base in Seongsan-gu, Changwon City, and a housing construction site in Uichang-gu, Changwon City.
He checked the cement shipment trends, encouraged related personnel including non-union truck owners, and listened to the difficulties faced at the construction sites.
According to Gyeongnam Province, since the government's work commencement order for transport operators and workers on the 29th of last month, some cement supplies have been delivered, but this is only about 14% of the normal shipment volume.
At construction sites, there have been disruptions in ready-mixed concrete supply, and alternative processes are being carried out, but the industry predicts that if the situation continues, a series of construction stoppages will occur.
Among about 1,500 sites including private construction sites in the province and province-commissioned projects, around 60 sites have experienced construction stoppages or damage as of the 2nd.
A provincial official stated, "If the damage increases further, it will have a significant impact on the overall regional economy along with the recent deterioration of financial conditions in the industrial sector."
Since the 29th of last month, the province has operated a Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters headed by the governor and held a countermeasure meeting with 18 cities and counties on the 30th.
Following the government's work commencement order, it was announced that Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency is responding to illegal acts such as transportation obstruction and unlawful occupation, and emergency transportation measures have been strengthened.
Governor Park said, "I hope the Cargo Solidarity strike situation will be resolved quickly, and please make every effort to manage the sites so that construction can safely resume in the future," adding, "We will actively respond to minimize the damage to the province's industrial sector caused by the Cargo Solidarity general strike."
