[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyunjung] The wedding of Naomi Biden (28), the daughter of Hunter Biden, the second son of U.S. President Joe Biden, will be held on the 19th (local time) on the South Lawn of the White House, known as the 'South Lawn'.

According to recent foreign media reports, Naomi Biden will marry her fianc? Peter Neill (25), who is three years younger, on this day. Naomi is the eldest of three daughters born to Hunter Biden, the president's second son, and his ex-wife Kathleen Buhle. This is the first time a sitting president's granddaughter is getting married at the White House. So far, there have been 18 weddings held at the White House. Among these, weddings and receptions hosted by presidents and their immediate families have occurred 10 times, including the weddings of nine presidential children and President Grover Cleveland himself in 1886.

The first wedding at the White House was that of Lucy Payne Washington, sister-in-law of the 4th president James Madison, in 1812. Following were Linda Bird Johnson, daughter of the 36th president Lyndon B. Johnson in 1967; Tricia Nixon, daughter of the 37th president Richard Nixon; and Jenna Bush, daughter of the 43rd president George W. Bush. The most recent case was the wedding of Pete Souza, former President Barack Obama's official White House photographer, held in 2013. The White House has not disclosed detailed plans for the wedding but stated that since it is a private family event, the Biden family will bear the costs in accordance with tradition.

Naomi, who works as a lawyer in Washington D.C., has been dating Peter Neill, whom she met through a friend's introduction four years ago, and announced their engagement last September. Neill is a lawyer who graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Law School this year. In 2019, Naomi convened a family meeting urging her grandfather to run for president against then-President Donald Trump seeking re-election. The following year, during her grandfather's presidential campaign, she actively campaigned targeting young voters using social media. Her fianc? Neill also built his political career by working as a White House intern during Joe Biden's vice presidency in the Obama administration and later worked on Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign.

Naomi's father, Hunter Biden, is a lawyer-turned-lobbyist who has been embroiled in controversies over his personal life and criminal allegations multiple times. Particularly controversial was his relationship with his sister-in-law Hallie Biden, which began just five months after the death of his older brother Beau Biden, who was perfect in every way unlike Hunter and died of cancer at the young age of 46. At that time, Hunter was separated from his wife Kathleen, and President Joe Biden issued a statement supporting the new relationship. Hunter later lived with Hallie Biden for about two years before breaking up, then remarried Melissa Cohen in 2019 and had a son the following year.
