[Asia Economy (Hongseong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Chungnam Province was selected as the best institution in the forest management project site evaluation.
The province announced on the 17th that it was selected as the best institution nationwide in the ‘Excellent Forest Management Project Site Evaluation’ hosted by the Korea Forest Service.
The Korea Forest Service conducts evaluations every year targeting local governments and regional forest services nationwide.
In the evaluation, Chungnam received high marks for creating a multi-layer mixed forest by removing defective and damaged trees at the forest management site in Jopyeong-ri, Sinpung-myeon, Gongju City, and generating income for forest owners through establishing forest management infrastructure and collecting forest products.
In addition to Gongju City, the province is investing a budget of 33 billion KRW this year in projects such as the establishment of afforestation trees and promotion of tree growth in other areas, carrying out forest management projects over 18,374 hectares of forest within the jurisdiction. The related projects are expected to be completed within the year.
Lee Sang-chun, Director of the Forest Resources Division, said, “Forest management is a very important project that fosters the economic and public value of forests as a national resource.” He added, “We will do our best to enhance the functions of forests as a source of timber production and use necessary for daily life and as a carbon sink responding to climate change.”
