Ministry of Foreign Affairs Discusses 'Korean Indo-Pacific Strategy Development Cooperation' with 14 Overseas Missions 2022 Overseas Diplomatic Missions Development Cooperation Officers Meeting

[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hee-jun] The Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a meeting of development cooperation officers from 14 overseas missions to discuss cooperation measures linked to Korea's Indo-Pacific strategy.


On the 11th, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that under the chairmanship of Won Do-yeon, Director General of the Development Cooperation Bureau, development cooperation officers from 14 countries in Asia, the Pacific, and Africa attended the meeting to discuss strategic public development assistance (ODA) promotion plans considering Korea's Indo-Pacific strategy.


The participants exchanged opinions on the new government's international development cooperation policies and reached a consensus on the importance of the Indo-Pacific region in ODA.


Excluding multilateral projects, Korea's ODA volume for the Indo-Pacific region accounts for 37.6% (?1.2119 trillion) of the total bilateral aid amount of ?2.2199 trillion based on this year's budget.


A Ministry of Foreign Affairs official stated, "We will strengthen field-centered public development assistance by enhancing the capabilities of development cooperation officers at overseas missions," adding, "We plan to continuously promote customized international development cooperation leveraging our strengths such as information and communication technology."


Meanwhile, President Yoon Suk-yeol will announce the 'Korean-style Indo-Pacific Strategy' at the Korea-ASEAN Summit held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, this afternoon.
