[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The Korea Display Industry Association announced that it will hold the '15th Display National R&D Project General Workshop' for three days starting from the 9th at Phoenix Pyeongchang in Gangwon Province.

More than 400 experts from industry, academia, and research institutes will participate in the event to present and discuss research achievements related to national R&D projects in the display field.

They will exchange technological development achievements of 74 projects in three areas: display materials and devices, display components and equipment, and LED (light-emitting diode) and convergence displays.

Park Jinhan, director of the market research firm Omdia, is scheduled to deliver a keynote speech on the topic of 'Display Demand and Supply Outlook and Competitiveness Analysis.' This will be followed by presentations from Yoon Yeogeon, executive director of Samsung Display, and Jeong Sanghoon, executive director of LG Display. An award ceremony will also be held to honor 12 outstanding researchers who have contributed to the industrial development of the display sector.

Lee Dongwook, vice chairman of the association, said in his welcoming remarks, "We are now in an era of technological hegemony," adding, "Display technology, which is a core technology determining the success of the electronics industry and an economic security industry, will gain essential momentum through the technological development efforts of researchers at the forefront."

Meanwhile, the government selected the display industry as a national advanced strategic industry at the '1st National Advanced Strategic Industry Committee' chaired by Prime Minister Han Deoksoo on the 4th.

The government plans to make all-out efforts to maintain Korea's 'super-gap' status in displays by discovering investments, workforce development, regulatory reforms, and financial policies related to design, manufacturing, process, and driving technologies for AMOLED (active-matrix organic light-emitting diode) panels, eco-friendly QD (quantum dot) material-applied panels, micro LED display panels, and nano LED display panels.
