Piercing the World! ... Dong-Eui University Fencing Team Wins 3 Gold Medals at Youth World Cup

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Dooyul] The fencing team of Dong-Eui University showcased outstanding performance at the International Fencing Federation (FIE) Sabre Youth World Cup, winning three out of four gold medals in the men's and women's individual and team events, securing three gold medals for Korea.


From the 4th to the 6th of last month, at the men's sabre youth world cup team event held in Tehran, Iran, Dong-Eui University’s Kim Junhyung, Kim Minjun, Na Minwook, and Kim Gakyoung competed and consecutively defeated Turkey, ranked 5th in the junior world rankings, and Uzbekistan, ranked 1st, leading Korea to victory.


In the individual event, Dong-Eui University’s Kim Junhyung won the championship by defeating Uzbekistan’s Elpan in the semifinals and Turkey’s Mohamed Furkan in the finals, becoming a two-time champion of the tournament.


At the women’s sabre youth world cup held from the 4th to the 6th in Almaty, Kazakhstan, two Dong-Eui University athletes faced off in the finals, where Kim Naae defeated Kim Yunseo 15-14 to claim the championship.


Korea placed 5th in the women’s team event.


In this tournament, athletes affiliated with the Busan Fencing Association formed the national team and participated with support from the Busan Fencing Association and Busan City’s international exchange projects.


At the men’s ?p?e event held in San Jose, Costa Rica, the Busan Physical Education High School team won the team gold medal and an individual bronze medal.
