Following the attraction of a university animal hospital and the establishment of the nation's first companion animal college, Dongmyung University will also sign a related agreement with the No Abandoned Dogs City organization on this day.
The Busan Companion Dog Patrol Team will hold a launch ceremony and training at 10 a.m. on the 1st at Dongmyung Hall, Dongmyung University, Yongdang-dong, Nam-gu, Busan. The organizing institutions, No Abandoned Dogs City and Dongmyung University, will sign an agreement and conduct department career and job experience programs.
The event will be attended by 25 patrol members and 25 dogs, Jeong Yong-hwan, Chairman of the Busan Autonomous Police Committee, Kim Ji-min, CEO of No Abandoned Dogs City Central Association, Baek Jun-ho, Director, Kwak Geun-ho, CEO of the Busan Branch, Lee Tae-hee, Director, Moon Bong-gyun, Chief of Busan Southern Police Station, Lee Hee-cheon, Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine at Gyeongsang National University, and Professor Hwang Tae-sung.
From Dongmyung University, President Jeon Ho-hwan, Dean No Jeong-sook of the College of Companion Animals, Department Head Kim Su-jin of Companion Animal Health Science, Department Head Kwak Jin-sook of Pet Grooming and Behavior Correction, and Department Head Lim Eun-seo of Nutritional Food Science will attend. About 50 prospective freshmen of the Department of Companion Animal Health Science at Dongmyung University will also observe.
The event will proceed with ▲ the official launch ceremony of the Companion Dog Patrol Team ▲ signing of a cooperation agreement between Dongmyung University and No Abandoned Dogs City ▲ patrol training for the Companion Dog Patrol Team ▲ and an open campus event for prospective freshmen of the Department of Companion Animal Health Science at Dongmyung University.
Jeong Yong-hwan, Chairman of the Autonomous Police Committee, said, “I hope the Companion Dog Patrol Team will play a significant role in timely discovering everyday risk factors that are usually overlooked and prevent missing the golden time for rescue due to delayed responses.”
Kim Su-jin, Department Head of Companion Animal Health Science at Dongmyung University, said, “There is already great interest from citizens and prospective students aiming to become animal health technicians regarding the launch of ‘community-participation policing’ activities in the Busan area, which involves collaboration among companion dogs, owners, and the police committee.”
President Jeon Ho-hwan said, “Please look forward to the future achievements of the first university animal hospital in Busan and Ulsan on campus and the nation’s first college related to companion animals.”
The Companion Dog Patrol Team is a community-participation policing policy where members walk their companion dogs daily, inspect risk factors throughout residential areas, and report discovered crime risks or emergencies to 112.
The policy will be piloted in Nam-gu and Suyeong-gu before being expanded citywide in Busan.
