[Asia Economy Reporter Bora Lee] A childhood photo of Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta Platforms, wearing a baseball uniform and making an innocent expression, was sold for 150 million won.
According to the U.S. financial media MarketWatch on the 29th (local time), the photo was sold for $105,000 (about 150 million won) at an auction held on the 28th. The buyer has not been disclosed.
The photo is said to have been taken in 1992 at a baseball camp in White Plains, New York, when Zuckerberg was 8 years old. On the back of the photo, Zuckerberg’s handwritten signature at the time can also be seen.
The photo was kept by Ally Tarantino, who was a camp counselor at the time. Tarantino recalled that he asked 8-year-old Zuckerberg to "sign a card like a star."
After Zuckerberg’s name became widely known, Tarantino reportedly searched his memory and found this photo of Zuckerberg gripping a bat in a red baseball uniform in his basement.
In an interview with MarketWatch, Tarantino said, "It’s a really strange piece," and added that the proceeds from the auction will be used to pay off loans and for his children’s education. Zuckerberg drew attention last August by posting this photo on his Instagram.
Meanwhile, Mark Zuckerberg’s fortune has reportedly evaporated by nearly 98 trillion won this year. As the stock price of Meta, the world’s largest social media company operating Facebook, plunged sharply, the valuation of Zuckerberg’s shares also plummeted. As a result, his net worth ranking fell sharply from 6th to 20th place.
