Sports star Kim Yuna's hanbok design will be showcased in London, UK. On the 27th (local time), the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Craft & Design Foundation will hold the 'Hanbok Wave' event at the Korean Cultural Center in London. This hanbok fashion show is part of the 'Planning and Development of Collaborative Content Linking Hallyu with the Hanbok Sector.' Sixty hanboks tailored to Kim Yuna's personality and image will be presented. The project to plan and develop collaborative content linking Hallyu with the hanbok sector supports the hanbok industry in exploring overseas markets by collaborating with Hallyu cultural artists.
This year, Kim Yuna participated in hanbok design development and photo shoots. Ten hanbok companies, including Geumui Jae, Giroe, Live Damyeon, Morinori, Sijien Lee, Lee Young Ae Woori Ot, Hapli, Hyemi by Saimdang, Hyeon, and Hyeyum Hanbok, designed hanboks reflecting Kim Yuna's characteristics. A Ministry of Culture official stated, "We plan to invite major overseas media and fashion industry insiders to showcase the charm of our hanbok," adding, "Related videos will be posted on the website of the 'Hallyu! The Korean Wave' exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum in the UK, the world's largest museum of decorative arts."
Kim Yuna's hanbok will also be revealed on the 27th in a photo spread in the famous French fashion magazine Marie Claire. It combines the unique elegance and beauty of hanbok with Kim Yuna's personality and distinctive aura. A Ministry of Culture official said, "By the end of the year, the photo video will also be displayed on the electronic billboard in Times Square Broadway, New York, USA," and added, "We hope this event will help hanbok companies expand globally."
