Hannam 2 District, Daewoo 'Hannam Summit' vs Lotte 'Le El Palatino' Showdown

Daewoo E&C and Lotte E&C, who have embarked on the redevelopment project of Hannam 2 District in Bogwang-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, have officially kicked off the bidding war by proposing the complex names 'Hannam Summit' and 'Le-EL Palatino,' respectively.

◆Daewoo E&C: "Completed as an unparalleled landmark surpassing Hannam The Hill"

On the 23rd, Daewoo E&C participated in the bid for the 'Hannam 2 District Redevelopment Project' in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, proposing 'Hannam Summit' as the complex name, applying its high-end brand 'Summit.'

The exterior design of Hannam Summit will be handled by the overseas design firm JERDE. JERDE is a global architectural design group renowned for landmark projects worldwide, including the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas and the Dubai International Financial Centre.

The landscaping will be led by the world-renowned landscape design group STOSS, headed by Harvard University landscape architecture professor Chris Reed, and the floor plan design will involve designer SWNA.

A Daewoo E&C official said, "We have long contemplated the future value of Hannam 2 District more than anyone else," adding, "We proposed a design that maximally reflects the needs of the union members and highlights the potential of Hannam 2 District." He continued, "We will concentrate all the company's capabilities to ensure that Hannam 2 District is reborn as an unparalleled landmark that not only surpasses Hannam The Hill but also rewrites the Han River skyline."

◆Lotte E&C: "Together with nine world-class masters in exterior and landscaping design"

The complex name proposed by Lotte E&C for Hannam 2 District is 'Le-EL Palatino.' Palatino refers to the Palatine Hill, the stage and origin of the founding myth of Rome, known as the hill of honor and authority where the Roman emperor's palace and nobles' residences were located.

Before the bid, Lotte E&C demonstrated its determination to win the Hannam 2 District project by being the first to pay the bid deposit of 80 billion KRW on the 19th.

The exterior design was a collaboration between the world-renowned hotel design group HBA and Lee Lee-nam, a Korean media art master known as the second Nam June Paik.

Having participated in the landscaping design of Disney World and collaborating with SWA, the top landscape design firm in the U.S., they plan to complete the landscaping.

Architect Choi Si-young, who designed the interior of Signiel Seoul Residence, is in charge of the interior, while Front and DnSP are responsible for the exterior and interior design of the commercial facilities, respectively.

It is also notable that Lotte E&C, in collaboration with the Lotte Cultural Foundation, plans to install artworks by world-class artists within the complex.

A Lotte E&C official said, "We formed a team with nine world-class masters to propose an innovative hotel-style design to present Hannam 2 District as the finest luxury residential complex," adding, "Leveraging our know-how from constructing Korea's top-tier residential spaces such as Nine One Hannam and Lotte World Tower Signiel, we will establish a new standard of residential space quality."

Meanwhile, the Hannam 2 Redevelopment Promotion District housing redevelopment project, regarded as the biggest project in the second half of 2022, is a project to build 1,537 apartment units (based on the union's design plan) and ancillary welfare facilities in 30 buildings ranging from six basement floors to 14 above-ground floors on the site of 272-3 Bogwang-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul. The contractor selection general meeting is scheduled to be held in November.
